This summer we took a trip to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. I had been before for a day trip while staying in Savannah so I was excited to finally get to see and explore more of what the island had to offer. After spending almost a week here I can honestly say it is such a beautiful and relaxing place and perfect for a family vacation! After coming back home my husband and I were so in love with it we actually booked another trip there in a few months.
Our first day there we got up early because we wanted to explore. We took a drive to Lawton Stables and visited the horse stables and petting zoo. They had the cutest animals that you can feed, perfect for kids and kids at heart. And they even offer pony rides for young ones for $15.
We did not set a strict itinerary for this trip since it was just meant to be a relaxing vacation. Most days were spent split between the beach, going out for ice cream, and taking long walks around the town. The trees are so beautiful and covered in Spanish moss which makes everything so romantic looking.
One of my favorite spots was Harbour Town. There’s so much to do here and something for everybody. Whether you’re looking for good food, shopping, or just people watching around the pier you’ll definitely have a good time. Don’t forget to climb the lighthouse, the view is spectacular!
Something I would totally recommend for the adults in your group if going to HHI is a distillery tour and tasting at Hilton Head Distillery. The distillery tour was really interesting and the spirits were awesome. You get to customize your own tasting, whether you prefer more cocktail or more shots. I went with a mixture of both.
On our last day we rented a pontoon boat from Shelter Cove Marina and cruised up and down the canal. We even saw some dolphins on the trip, I tried my hardest to get a picture but they were too quick for me. We even came back at night to see the beautiful fireworks display they put on every Tuesday night in the summer! They call it Harbourfest and there is music, face painting, carnival games and so much more!
Overall I just loved it here. The south just has so much charm and it’s easy to get swept up in the romance of it all. I will say that it was quite hot but we were in the south in the dead of summer so that is to be expected. Our next trip there will be in April so the temperatures will definitely be cooler. It will be interesting to see what the island is like in its off-peak time. If you are looking for a romantic get away for you and your significant other or a family friendly vacation HHI can definitely accommodate you.
